The Cost of Passion: Suffering as the Product of Love

Passion comes from the Old French verb pati, to suffer, and was first used in reference to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his self-sacrifice love for the world. Your passion, strictly understood, is the thing for which you are willing to suffer. In contrast to the great majority of others, we should not be asking how to avoid suffering but how to discover that for which suffering is warranted. As Frankl said in Man’s Search for Meaning, “Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear with almost any ‘how.’
