Scope and Sequence: Designing “FLOW”

Ideally, every part of the church year leads naturally into the next. This way, each event/series/initiative builds momentum in all areas, allowing the “fly wheel” effect. Planning like this requires considering the “scope and sequence.” The scope refers to the areas of development addressed by the curriculum. The sequence includes plans and materials for learning experiences to support and extend various levels of development.

This curriculum will help you understand the basic concepts of scope and sequence planning for each year; consider how best to balance what the church needs, wants, has received, and will extend into the future; and understand the ‘working pattern’ (see below) for how to ensure everything flows.
