7 Sacred Passions: Pursuing Endless Virtue

Many Christians limit their understanding of faith to the negation of personal sin. They imagine that, through effort and devotion, they can achieve the same kind of sinless perfection as Jesus of Nazareth, or perhaps the Apostle Paul. Still others imagine that their energies should be channeled primarily into acts of justice or advocacy, evangelism or service. Of course, none of these are misguided pursuits…but neither are they sufficient to fully answer the question, “Is there all there is?” Or, as I’ve come to articulate it, “What am I supposed to do?”

Jesus himself, in John’s Gospel, describes the purpose of his incarnation as providing us abundant life. So, if that was Jesus’ mission, why should his followers settle for anything less?

In pursuit of abundant life, scripture reveals seven sacred passions that can be enjoyed without unreasonable limit.

This curriculum will help you recognize and authenticate that which God designed to bring us joy; aim ourselves toward godly passions, in pursuit of abundant life; and craft a framework for “life-cultivation” rather than “sin-removal.”
