Following the Words and the Way of Jesus: Discipleship Beyond the Church Container

A “mathetes” is a learner. Disciples are students in both the Words and the Way of Jesus. And how do we learn? Through all we pursue and through the ways we respond. The problem with the Church’s current discipleship paradigm is that it is Church-centric rather then person-centric, which prioritizes institutional compliance over personal growth, development, and responsiveness to the Spirit.

This curriculum will help you understand the importance of personal discipleship, related to (but not limited by) Church community; become familiar with the koans of Jesus, discerning how best to employ them as guideposts for personal discipleship; and memorize, then synthesize, the Words of Jesus with the way you live.
