Understanding the “third way” of creation

Description

Harvard professor and celebrated artist David Edwards is a pioneer in the third way of creating ‘things that matter.’ His approach differs from the first way (generating profit) and the second way (contributing to culture) in that it is driven by the passionate curiosity of the artist and the enjoyable experience of the audience. It is a decidedly intrinsic pathway that has yielded exceptional results in the fields of scientific research, artistic expression, manufacturing, engineering, art, and theater. He calls his process “The Creator’s Cycle”, and it is described at length in “Creating Things That Matter” (Picador Press, 2018).

This curriculum will help you understand the components of meaningful, rewarding, ongoing creativity; evaluate our current methodologies and values to discern which changes to make in order that our creative pursuits might become increasingly meaningful, joyful, and sustainable; and cultivate a rhythm of continued innovation that honors and authenticates seven aesthetic dimensions.
