Communicating promise instead of obligation

Description

Too much ministry demands duteousness without ever promising meaning, significance, wonder, or development. In effect, Church forces people to believe and behave in certain ways โ€œbecause the Bible says soโ€, or โ€œbecause we need your helpโ€, or โ€œbecause itโ€™s the right thing to doโ€ without appreciating either the nuances of biblical interpretation, the leading of the Spirit, nor the awareness that one size does not fit all. Whether in preaching, discipleship, liturgy, or missiology, we need to acknowledge that our ministry is only effective insofar as it answers the question, โ€œWhat difference does this make in my life?โ€ Or, more simply, โ€œSo what?โ€

This curriculum will help you critically reflect upon our ministry, in order to discern how best to help facilitate meaningful devotion to Christ; adjust our approach so our people derive maximum benefit from our approach; and boldly proclaim good news that actually makes a difference in the lives of real people.
